Continence Help and Support
People Living with dementia may lose the ability to recognise the need to visit the bathroom which may result in episodesof incontinence. This is nothing to be embarrased about and help is available. Changes in medication or diet can also affect bowel and bladder habits - seek advice as soon as you notice a change.

Keep on using the toilet regularly and as normally as possible. The ’need to go’ messages may be slower to get through but muscle memory and the instinctive toilet habits formed over years may still be there and should be supported for as long as possible.

Your GP
Ask your GP about the support available through the GP’s Practice. You may be able to get a visit from a specialist nurse who can offer advice, information and support. Some surgeries have links with advisors from other organisations who can support you- ASK!
